Educating Lives One Community @ a Time..

While searching for creative ways to raise money for the South Berwyn School District 100 Education Foundation, Dan Lane also found a way to boost local businesses.
Lane is the president of the South Berwyn Education Foundation, which exists to raise money and make donations to District 100. He’s also a spokesman for the district.
Here’s how the current fundraiser works: A person prints a flier off the school district’s website and brings it in to one of the participating businesses.
If a person purchases the services of that business, that business donates a percentage of the purchase to the foundation. The foundation then gives the money to the school district to, according to its website, “directly improve the educational programs of the students.”
The latest business to participate in the fundraiser is Evoluzion, 6340 Roosevelt Road, Oak Park. Evoluzion is an alternative health facility that offers services such as massages, magnet therapy, aromatherapy and skin care, among other things.
Lane said the plan going forward is to partner with other businesses.
“This is going to be hopefully a group of things that are happening that are services for the community, that people will go to,” Lane said.
Lane said the district does not receive the large monetary donations to which other districts may have access.
“We don’t have any of those big guns here so what we have to do is we have to look at other ways, creative ways to get funds here,” Lane said.
One of those creative ways includes partnering with area businesses.
So far, the foundation has already run similar fundraisers with area businesses. One was with Famous Dave’s restaurant in North Riverside, another is currently with the Route 66 Auto Spa car wash, 6840 W. Ogden Ave. in Berwyn.
“I’m just going to the local business that I meet through the (Berwyn Development Corporation),” he said.
The Berwyn Development Corporation is a quasi-public organization that provides economic development and chamber of commerce-like services for the city. According to the Berwyn Development Corporation’s website, it serves about 300 businesses and individual members.
Lane said the fundraisers could steer money toward the businesses that work with the South Berwyn Education Foundation. Though he also admits the money is not exactly a bonanza.
“A little bit of money is better than no money,” Lane said.
A fundraiser partnership with Chilli’s in North Riverside only brought in $140.
“The entire (fundraiser) last year (with) the car wash, we only made $200. But guess what? That’s $200 we didn’t have before,” Lane said.
Fliers for ongoing fundraisers can be found on District 100’s website, www.bsd100.org.

Building A Community Within Ourselves !!!

Upon arriving to Guatemala, within myself I had an agenda of what I was coming here for - To work as a Barefoot Doctor in the area of my expertise Auriculotherapy/Massage Therapy. The moment I arrived at San Marcos, all the mental ideas were gone. I was faced with the Beauty of Nature starring right at me. I allowed myself submerge with the experiences as they came and left. I took in every moment as my last breath. I observe carefully the people, women and children specially. I wanted to know what they where feeling and thinking. I came to realize many of us - live in our own world and forget there is a huge universe out of our little one. I felt one little ant faced with the BIG mountain I came to walk once, twice a day. Being in the presence of people with health issues affecting their lives each and every day gives an important turning point in the purpose and meaning of why we are here. Our mission to service others who are in need. Guatemala left a huge impression in my life and just confirm my true commitment as a person of service. I would love to return to Guatemala in the near future. I met beautiful people, ate fresh foods , and just fell in love with the tranquility the rain forest gives your heart at waking up every morning and greeting it with a smile. I applaud everyone who made Guatemala there home and opened there doors to service. Thank you Christian Nix for opening your doors to your home and giving us the opportunity to explore the nature and beauty of what a Barefoot Doctor can do for me and humanity.

Building A Healthy Community One Step @ A Time !!!
Dr. Maat, president of BNICEH and member of Black Business Builders Club reminds us that the Black Community is one of the first communities that suffers long-term health and nutrition issues when alternative healthcare and insurance is not accessible to them.
Moreover, we have seen many well-off Black figures who can afford good healthcare make their transitions within this decade: Bernie Mac, Michael Jackson, Gayle Sayers, Eddie Levert, Isaac Hayes, Rick James, James Brown, Barry White, et al.
Barefoot Medicine is here now and available to all regardless of income. Training and Seminars will be presented all over the world. Introductory Seminars may be made available free to disability, senior and low-income communities when there are sponsors.
AcuCenters can be set up by Black business persons in their communities for profit or nonprofit.
The Chicago seminar July 11 is Free and open to physicians, nurses, healers, business owners, as well as students, seniors, youth, people who are disabled, and the general public thanks to Acuwerks, Dr. Yurasek, Dr. Maat, BNICEH and Green Think Tank for the Community.
More sponsors are welcome for these seminars in order to be able to include the public. You can host or Invite Dr. Yurasek and associate partners Dr. Khalil Abdul-Rahim, Dr. Christian Nix and Gabriela Ardila to present an online seminar, too. Just ask.
